At Oakgrove Dental, Milton Keynes we offer one of the world’s most advanced orthodontic systems, Invisalign®.

We are the only member of the MiSmile Network in the whole of Milton Keynes who have collectively treated over 10,000 Invisalign patients.

WHAT IS INVISALIGN®?

Using advanced 3D computer-imaging technology, we can plan your complete Invisalign treatment, from the initial position of your teeth to the final desired position.

We will then produce a series of Invisalign clear aligners, custom-made for your teeth and your teeth only, to move them little by little.

INVISALIGN® TEETH STRAIGHTENING

Invisalign® treatment is clinically proven to be effective in addressing a variety of teeth straightening conditions such as:

Open Bite – Often occurs when some teeth are unable to make physical contact with the opposing teeth for a proper bite.

Deep Bite – Deep bite occurs when the upper teeth bite over the lower teeth.

Gapped Teeth – Gaps between teeth can occur with abnormal continued growth of the jawbone.

Missing Teeth – Missing teeth can also cause the surrounding teeth to shift due to extra space, creating gaps in your teeth.

Overly Crowded – Teeth crowding occurs when there is simply a lack of room within your jaw for all of your teeth to fit normally.

Underbite – Can occur when the lower teeth protrude past the front teeth.

Crossbite – Can occur when the upper and lower jaws are both misaligned.

INVISALIGN FAQs

About Invisalign

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a clear aligner system that uses a series of removable, custom-made trays to gradually straighten teeth. The aligners are designed to be discreet and are an alternative to traditional fixed braces.

Digital scans are used to create a personalised treatment plan showing how your teeth will move over time. A series of aligners is then produced, which you change every one to two weeks as your teeth gradually straighten.

Invisalign can treat many mild to moderate crowding, spacing and bite problems, but it is not suitable for every case. An assessment at Oakgrove Dental Practice will confirm whether aligners are appropriate for you.

For many mild to moderate cases Invisalign can achieve results comparable to fixed braces. Some complex movements are still better managed with fixed appliances, and your clinician at Oakgrove will recommend the most predictable option for your case.

Treatment Plan & Logistics

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Treatment length varies depending on complexity, but many cases take several months to around 18 months. Your clinician at Oakgrove will provide an estimated timeframe as part of your personalised plan.

Invisalign is a private treatment and costs depend on case complexity, treatment length and practice fees. Your consultation at Oakgrove will include a written treatment plan outlining costs and any payment options.

Orthodontic care through the NHS usually focuses on fixed braces for children and young people who meet specific clinical criteria. Invisalign for adults is typically provided on a private basis.

At Oakgrove, review appointments are usually scheduled every six to eight weeks to check progress and provide new aligners. Digital monitoring between visits may also be used to keep treatment on track.

Invisalign can improve many bite issues, although very complex problems may still be better treated with fixed braces or combined approaches. A full assessment is needed to confirm suitability.

Wearing & Day-to-Day Use

How many hours a day do I need to wear the aligners?

Aligners should usually be worn for 20-22 hours per day and removed only for eating, drinking anything other than water, and cleaning. Wearing them as advised is essential for predictable results.

You may feel pressure or mild discomfort for a few days when changing to a new aligner, which is a sign the teeth are moving. This is usually manageable and often less noticeable than with fixed braces – if discomfort persists, our team at Oakgrove can advise.

Aligners should be removed for eating and drinking anything other than water to avoid damage or staining. Teeth and aligners should be cleaned before placing them back in the mouth.

Some people notice a slight lisp when first wearing aligners, but this usually settles within a few days as your mouth adapts. Consistent wear helps speech return to normal quickly.

The aligners are clear and close-fitting, making them much less noticeable than traditional braces. Most people will not notice them unless looking very closely.

Smoking or vaping with aligners in can stain or damage them and may affect gum health. Aligners should be removed, and stopping smoking entirely is best for oral health.

Care & Aftercare

What are attachments or buttons used with Invisalign?

Attachments are small, tooth-coloured shapes temporarily bonded to certain teeth to help the aligners move them more effectively. They are removed at the end of treatment.

Aligners should be rinsed with lukewarm water and gently brushed, avoiding hot water which can distort them. Cleaning tablets or crystals may also be recommended.

Contact Oakgrove for advice as soon as possible. You may be advised to move to the next aligner or have a replacement made, depending on your treatment stage.

Yes, retainers are essential after Invisalign to keep teeth in their new positions. Your dentist at Oakgrove will advise how long and how often they should be worn to maintain your result.
